Trelfa & Co Solicitors
DIVORCE AND SEPARATION
What we offer:
- Jill Trelfa is a member of ‘Resolution’ formerly the Solicitors Family
Law Association. This is an association of family lawyers who follow a code
of practice, the broad aim of which is to encourage everyone to agree that
family disputes are not contests in which there are winners and losers but
to search for fair solutions. Most importantly they will encourage everyone
to put the welfare of the children first.
- Jill Trelfa is a Resolution Accredited Specialist with particular expertise
in property and finances, including pensions on divorce. The qualification
of accredited specialist is awarded following formal written examination and
submission of relevant case studies.
- Jill Trelfa is also a member of the Law Society Family Law Panel.
- Jill Trelfa is a trained collaborative lawyer. This is a new process for
resolving issues and disputes arising out of separation and divorce. It is
a process that aims to reduce conflict between parties, keep cases out of
court and reduce legal costs. For more information go to the section on Collaborative
Law or click here.
- You will receive a personal service throughout your case.
- If you are working through mediation elsewhere then we will advise you
as an individual on your legal position without seeking to interfere with
the mediation process. We can recommend a mediator if you wish.
- We will discuss the likely cost with you at the outset and advise you on
the costs implications at various stages.
- We aim to achieve a fair settlement for you rather than expensive litigation.
However, if there are court proceedings relating to the financial or property
aspects of divorce or other areas in dispute, then we will act firmly in your
interests to bring about a satisfactory resolution.
- We will try to promote co-operation between you and your spouse in decisions
concerning children.
- We will always deal with matters in a way that encourages agreement and
avoids unnecessary litigation. In this way you are more likely to arrive at
a satisfactory solution at less cost emotionally and financially. Agreed solutions,
particularly those relating to children, are more likely to be adhered to
and to prove durable than those imposed by a court.
